It's My Birthday!

Today is my birthday and for once I have nothing planned.

I honestly have NO IDEA what’s in store for me because my awesome boyfriend, Stu, has told me ‘he’s got this one’.

It’s exciting getting surprises and being unsure what’s around the corner. It’s beautiful coming together with friends and family to celebrate another year of your life. And it’s soooo GOOD to have a day when people do what you want without any need to justify!

But birthdays aren’t just about celebrating, partying and having all eyes on you.

I like to think of them as a time to reflect over the last year – to appreciate all the good, to learn from the mistakes and most importantly, to feel proud of all you accomplished.

To me, it’s kind of like a New Year’s Day but specific to me (and everyone else in the world who shares’ my birthday). I can still feel the effects of the past year lingering while the year ahead is so close, yet unknown and filled with hopes and dreams of everything I want to achieve.

Reflections On Last Year – What Was It All About?

Travel – With more travel than my OE, last year was definitely a time of journeys, exploration and discovery.

The biggest learning experiences for me over this time were that I LOVED the places I visited in the USA (totally unexpected), while I also realised that Bali (despite being amazing), isn’t a place I want to live.

While I’ve always enjoyed experiencing different cultures, I’d never cared much for historical buildings in the past. However, this changed dramatically last year and I lapped up the experience of walking down old cobbled streets while imagining people doing the same, hundreds of years earlier.

My travel experiences this year have been inspiring, exciting, eye-opening and have left me with a deep feeling that ‘anything is possible’.

Abundance – Our business expanded and grew beyond our expectations this year, giving Stu and I a sense of freedom beyond anything we’d ever felt before.

For me, coming from a background of being 6 years a student (over the last decade) and jumping from job to job the remaining time, I’ve always been a month behind in my bills and would watch every penny I spent.

Learning to receive and live life with generousity has been an amazing lesson and one that I’m definitely still learning about.

Relationships – Throughout our travels, Stu and I met some really cool, inspiring and interesting people who have become good friends of ours.

We’ve developed business relationships – something that I’ve never experienced before. We spent a lot of time with our families – which is always a chance to learn more about yourself and due to travelling, working and living together, we’ve had a LOT of time with each other – teaching us about our own relationship.

Overall it’s been a great year for building and developing relationships, creating a beautiful foundation for us to move forward from.

Learning – I thrive in a learning environment and running my own business has definitely thrown me in the deep end on many occasions. This has been another unexpected event that’s popped into my life – since I’ve never been interested in ‘business’ before.

However, it’s been fun, challenging and I’ve gotta say – I’m seriously starting to LOVE business!

Acceptance – I learnt to accept that things don’t always go as planned, that they generally take longer than I think, that sometimes I feel tired and don’t want to do anything. And all of that’s actually OK!

Life throws curve balls at us and sometimes we’re not as productive as we want to be.

In the past, I’d be my own worst critic in these situations. But this year, I learnt to be ok with it. I accepted that life might have a different plan for us and that’s totally fine.

Desires For The Year Ahead – What Are The Themes Moving Forward?

Expand – To grow spiritually, to expand my consciousness and to broaden my perception of reality.

Flow – Allowing and flowing with life. No pushing, forcing or expecting, simply allowing things to evolve in their own natural process. Trusting the universe and that it always has my best interests at heart.

Intention – Setting intentions at the beginnning of every day and each new moon. Having a clear goal of what I want to achieve, without becoming attached.

Create – Putting time aside to create, explore, release my inner child and have fun. This is what my soul is crying out for recently and so it’s what I’ll do more of this year. I’m super excited about this one and can’t wait to see what comes of it.

Grounded – Learning to ground myself, especially when travelling, is something that’s important to me this year. I felt the effects of the constant travel last year and want this year to be different.

I’ll fill you in on my birthday surprise soon!

Davina. What can I say, she is a beautiful soul. Every time I see her or speak with her I leave feeling happier than when I first arrived. She always leaves me with something to push me that little bit further and motivate me with my plans. As cheesy as this sounds, Davina has the biggest heart to share with everyone. When we first met 5 years ago I couldn’t help but love her infectious grin that is always spreading joy!

Thank you Davina for continually encouraging me and helping me to see and celebrate my own achievements. You rock!
